The annual KZN & Gauteng Ladies & Juniors off-road day took place at Killarney 4x4 & Wild West Enduro Track, where 250 ladies & junior riders got together for some thrills and spills. The event was organized and hosted by Shredbettys and sponsored by Motorsport South Africa & Federation of International Motorcycling Africa.

Some of South Africa’s top lady riders, Lanza vd Mescht, Elize Olivier, Megan Jonker, Tiegan Reed, Kayla Raaf & Rebecca James were there on the days to coach the girls of all ages and riding levels. Other coaches including multiple MX Champ Brett Redman and Multiple Gold Roof of Africa Rider Brett Waddles were also on hand to coach the juniors and ladies. The day catered for Enduro and Motocross riders with a morning skills sessions focusing on things like picking up your bike at different angles, pivot turns, cornering, mx starts, turning your bike around in small spaces, downhills, up hills, getting over obstacles, weighting the pegs on off cambers etc etc. Once the morning skills lesson was over, the ladies were taken on outrides where they could hone their newly taught skills and put them into practice with the coaches and marshalls on hand to help out and give pointers along the way.

The purpose of the event was to introduce new ladies and juniors to the sport and to supply the riders with an ongoing support structure by introducing them to fellow lady riders and off-road groups like Shredbettys. This is a fun & informative riding day to develop riding skills among lady & junior riders, as well as to enable the growth of women participating in Motorsport. A Medic was on standby to take care of any injuries but happy to report no one gave him a visit.

The day ended off with a prize giving session where the ladies were totally spoilt with all the gifts from sponsors consisting of all the things they would need to ride or look good doing it in!

The day was enjoyed by the whole family with riders jumping into the pool kit and all and enjoying the venue facilities like the slide into the pool and the jungle gyms, there was something for everyone and Redbull was there with their Music Truck keeping the good vibes going.

Generous Prizes were sponsored by the following awesome Companies:

KTM Durban, KTM Alfie Cox Racing, Fox Racing South Africa, Startline, Gasoline Alley, Rollin Dirty, Redbull, Sherco, BikeWorx, Graphix Lab, Motorsport South Africa, Batt Holdings, Angel Security, Karlien Fouche, Dirtbike Fanatics, Media Worx, P.A. Baines, Liqui Moly South Africa, Hyde Guards, XRAMP, X LUBE, Dirty230 Divas, Regal Coatings.

KTM Durban & Sherco South Africa had demo bikes for both newbies and experts to try out, be it for their first time or to upgrade to a faster bigger bike. KTM Durban also had their mechanic on hand to sort out any issues and help with bike setup making sure everyone got to ride on the day.

Some feedback received from the Ladies:

Melanie Taylor: Dear Nicole, Lanz and Shred Betty Team, as well as all other Assistants and Stake Holders. What an amazing day. I loved every moment. I have acquired some new learning techniques which I will practise at home as often as I can. Thank you Lanz for your patience, it made the effort all more worth while. The sense of achievement that I have taken from yesterday and brought home with me, have done wonders for my confidence and general morale. (I'm still scared of but the fear is a little less) But hey... I rocked a river crossing....twice!! I look forward to participating in any other similar events. Even if its just a simple morning of learning a few more tricks, would be amazing.’Any way, this email serves as a shout out to you all for the epic day which I have named my own personal "Roof of Shongweni..." Thank you again!
