With nearly 240 entries already received since entries opened on Thursday 15 March for the 2018 MOTUL Roof of Africa Bronze Qualifier, the race is squaring up to be a classic.

There are a number of new and exciting changes to this year’s event which takes place on 12 May and riders who are thinking of entering the Bronze Qualifier are urged to get entries in as soon as possible to secure their spot.

The intention of the 90-100 km route in The Kingdom of Lesotho is to pre-qualify Bronze Class riders for the MOTUL Roof of Africa to be held in December 2018.

In addition, an extra class has been created for potential Silver & Gold riders who wish to ride the Qualifier under racing conditions with all the medical and logistic backup that is required of an event of this nature. They will do the same route as the Bronze Qualifiers but will start half an hour behind the Bronze riders so as not to interfere with their race.

MOTUL Roof of Africa event organiser, Peter Luck, explains that only the first 150 competitors with the least time taken to complete the Qualifier will be afforded entry into the 2018 Roof of Africa Bronze Class.

“The balance of finishers will be placed on a waiting list in the order according to the time it took them to complete the qualifier and will be afforded entry if any of the first 150 pre-qualified riders drop out.”

He emphasises that no entry will be granted to the MOTUL Roof of Africa Bronze Class without participation in and completion of the Bronze Qualifier.

Excitement is building for this year’s Roof of Africa and according to Mercia Jansen Area Manager for Eastern and Southern Africa at MOTUL, the brand is proud to be part of the event as the title sponsor for the third year. “Planning around this year’s event is very much on track and we look forward to another successful Motul Roof of Africa this year,” she says.

The updated 2018 MOTUL Roof of Africa Bronze Qualifier route promises to offer riders a great challenge in preparation for the toughest extreme enduro race later on this year.

More details on the Start/Finish area and route will be released in the next couple of weeks.
